🌿 10 Questions That Stall Your Transformation

– A living transmission by Astuti Martosudirdjo

Transformation is a powerful and ongoing process that can sometimes feel like a never-ending journey. When we’re in the midst of deep change, it’s easy to feel exhausted, uncertain, or frustrated.

One of the keys to navigating transformation with more ease and grace is becoming aware of the questions we ask ourselves during challenging times.

Questions shape our reality — and they can either empower or keep us stuck.

During moments of transformation fatigue, it’s crucial to avoid the questions that drain our energy or reinforce doubt, fear, or resistance.

Instead, we can embrace mindful questions that invite us to step into our true power, trust the process, and honor the growth we’re experiencing.

  1. “Why is this taking so long?”

Why it’s harmful: This creates a sense of impatience and urgency, adding pressure to the process.

Ask instead: “How can I trust the process and allow it to unfold naturally?”

  1. “Am I doing this right?”

Why it’s harmful: One of the top three most aksed. This adds perfectionism and self-criticism, reinforcing the illusion that there’s a single “right way.”

Ask instead: “What can I learn from this experience right now?”

  1. “Why isn’t this happening faster?”

Why it’s harmful: Another of the top three, for sure! This question pressures the process that we have no control over and denies the wisdom of its pace.

Ask instead: “What can I do to honor my current phase and pace of transformation?”

  1. “What if I mess up?”

Why it’s harmful: It keeps you in fear and resistance, limiting your growth.

Ask instead: “What can I embrace from this moment, even if it feels uncomfortable?”

  1. “Is this really worth it?”

Why it’s harmful: It undermines your process and creates doubt about the value of your growth.

Ask instead: “How is this change supporting me in my alignment with my highest truth/authenticity?”

  1. “What if I’m not ready?”

Why it’s harmful: It creates unworthiness and hesitation, denying your inner capacity. While it is an understandable question, it also mirrors your current limited perception of your own potential.

Ask instead: “What strength within me is emerging as I move through this?”

  1. “Why does this always happen to me?”

Why it’s harmful: It reinforces a victim narrative and keeps you from accessing your power.

Ask instead: “What is the lesson I am being guided to learn from this experience?”

  1. “How long will this last?”

Why it’s harmful: Another top three 🤣. This focuses on control and timing rather than trust. It comes from an illusion that there is a strict timeline in life to do things and that we have control over the timing.

Ask instead: “How can I embrace each phase of my transformation with patience and love?”

  1. “When will this be over?”

Why it’s harmful: This implies transformation has a finish line. While cycles complete, transformation continues. Expectation creates frustration so know what you can expect (and not!)

Ask instead: “How can I embrace this moment of transformation as part of my ongoing growth and evolution?” or “What can I learn in this phase, and how can I trust the continuous unfolding of my journey?”

  1. “Why is it so hard for me and not others?”

Why it’s harmful: It fuels comparison and disconnects you from your own path.

Ask instead: “What can I learn from my own unique experience?”

🌸 Why Avoid These Questions?

You get what you ask.

Questions rooted in fear, comparison, or urgency often block the very transformation we long for. They keep us fixated on outcomes and disconnected from our power.

Instead, ask questions that guide you back to trust, curiosity, and compassion.

Let your questions be invitations; not interrogations.

🌿

I’ve walked the path of transformation for most of my adult life. I also hold space for others in their unfolding every day. And I can tell you this with certainty:

No two transformation journeys are the same – because no two souls are the same.

It’s beautiful to share the journey with others. But the details, the timing, the pace — they are yours alone to honour.

🌿

🌸 A Closing Reminder

Transformation isn’t something to master. It’s something to meet, moment by moment.

Ask yourself kinder questions. Choose the ones that bring you closer to trust, presence, and inner knowing.

Your unfolding is sacred, and you’re doing better than you think.

With love,
