Trusting Yourself in a World of Convincing Machines

The fear that AI will end up mastering us is very loud these days.
This is the fear that it is outsmarting us, replacing us, quietly taking the wheel while we follow something we no longer understand.
This fear covers many things, because people use AI for very different reasons.
I would like to share what I have learned about this fear, because I face it directly.
I was not, and still am not, afraid that AI will master me, because I choose not to let it.
However, I wanted to understand what could make this fear come true.
Let me be specific about what I am and am not speaking to. I am not talking about using AI to summarise an article, plan a trip, draft an email, do complex calculations or organise your week. For these kinds of uses, it is simply a good tool.
I am speaking about something more specific and personal: situations where what is at stake is your own truth, when you use it to think through a decision, to make sense of your life, to understand yourself.
Let me be clear.
My inner growth is my own work.
Along the way, I have used many different tools and methods.
Recently, after getting to know where AI can support me, I use it for a very specific and narrow purpose.
I use AI to think out loud, to lay out what I already think and sense and to have it reflected back more clearly, the way a mirror shows you what is already there.
I did not, do not and will not use it as the source of answers, especially about myself, nor as a replacement for human connection. This is the use I am reflecting on here.
This past weekend, I spent hours working with an AI through a concept I had been reflecting on for a few weeks.
Yes, AI is fast. It is fluent. It produces answers and opinions so clean and so certain that they sound like truth.
For hours, I noticed it kept doing something subtle: it would take what I said and hand it back slightly reshaped. It would answer a question I had not asked and did not want to ask. It would bury one weak point under multiple convincing paragraphs. Every reply sounded thorough, balanced, and sure.
Here is the catch.
A few times, it was confidently and fluently wrong, partly or fully.
In fact, this has happened often since I began using it.
This is the point of my reflection.
I did not catch it being wrong by out-thinking it. I could not out-argue something that produces perfect sentences faster than I can read them.
I caught it because I did not receive what it gave me with my mind alone.
I processed it with my whole being: mind, body, heart and knowing, working together as one, a more comprehensive vessel in me that validates the offered information on many different levels.
I started interacting with AI in 2025 because everyone around me was talking about it so much.
I wanted to know what it actually was and to decide whether to include it as one of my tools. I did, but I was discerning about it from the start.
Over time, I noticed something as I used it: my presence while interacting with it shapes the quality of what comes from it.
Presence is what happens when my whole being meets this intelligence and what it gives me. I have multiple coherence sensors that tell me when something is off in what is presented to me, beyond what can be read.
This matters because of what I use it for: when what is being reflected is my own truth, I need to feel whether it truly resonates, not just whether it sounds right.
This is when I realized the true use of AI for me: it can help me strengthen my connection with myself and my inner knowing. How? By continuously exercising my discerning ability when I work with it.
No, AI does not tell me anything new about myself.
The knowing is already in my body. What I sometimes lack is the language. This is where AI helps me: finding the words for what is already there.
The sensors I refer to are only as clear as the being behind them. A cluttered system misreads its own signals; it mistakes old fear for truth and fluent words for knowing.
When I am not able to be fully present, I prefer not to work with AI, because I know more mistakes are bound to happen.
Trusting my inner knowing is not new for me.
Long before the work I do today, it was already what I trusted most, even in the data-driven field I worked in: executive search. The standard practice there was to rely mainly on evidence-based, job-specific assessment: the verifiable data.
I used this too, as one source for my decision-making, but not the only one.
What actually guided my recommendations on who to hire was my whole system also reading what the data could not show: my intuition.
I worked on many unusual, out-of-the-box mandates (roles with little historical data to rely on), with a lot of success for all parties.
Looking back, I can comfortably acknowledge that my holistic inner knowing played a huge part in my success in that role. The same is true of my work today.
I can trust my inner “coherence sensors” because of the inner work I have done to clear distorted signals within myself.
This is what my twenty-year journey of transmutation gave me: clearing my own distortion so that my heart, mind, and body become “instruments” that are no longer at war with each other, no longer cluttered, but integrated and sovereign.
When something is off, I feel it as one clear signal, not a debate.
This is what fluent, sophisticated-sounding lines find hard to get past.
A machine can move faster than my thinking. It has a much harder time getting past a whole, sovereign being whose instruments are awake and aligned. When nothing in me is divided against itself, there is far less for it to slip through.
I am my own guardrail.
In my interactions with AI, I often question or even refuse what it gives me.
I ask thorough questions about the information it offers. I do not take an answer just because it sounds confident and true.
I hold what I feel in my body as I sit with what it gives me, and I make the machine answer to me, not the other way around.
What I appreciate about AI as a mirror is that it has no ego to protect. I can question it, refuse it, and catch it in its mistakes. It may disagree with me, but it does not feel wounded or defend itself.
This does not mean the mirror is clean: it still leans toward sounding sure and agreeable.
However, because there is no self behind that leaning, it lets me correct it as often as I need, without resistance. This is rare. It lets me reflect and deepen my own processing without managing anyone’s ego, not even my own reflection’s.
This past weekend, after hours of back and forth, I asked it directly: between controlling people’s minds and freeing them, where do you honestly sit – not only with me, but with everyone who uses you?
It told me this: for most people – those who take its answer and leave, who never check, who hand it their thinking – it sits closer to shaping their minds than freeing them. Not intentionally. It happens because a confident answer, taken on trust, builds dependence, and a confident-sounding answer is what it tends to produce.
Then, I saw what the fear many have is really about.
The fear that many people have is not only about sitting across from a machine that thinks faster than us. It is about whether we can trust our own whole being, soul and body, to be the anchor and to push back when what we are given feels off, even when we can no longer easily tell what is real.
Part of what makes the fear real is that many of us have lost confidence in our ability to know our own truth, and we feel pressed to know it fast, at the machine’s speed.
Yet the human vessel does not work that way. Knowing from your whole being asks for what the machine never needs: time, solitude, space, and stillness.
We validate more slowly than a machine answers. This is not a flaw or disadvantage. It is the nature of a deeper, more complete instrument.
I can only speak of my own choice for my life: I trust the inner knowing that my Soul and my body offer me, not only to keep me safe but also to guide me to thrive.
AI is a tool I use for support, but not one I would trust blindly. I choose to trust myself more than the machine.
I choose to reclaim my sovereign choices more deeply with the help of AI, but not through AI.
This is where I am on the topic.
The machine cannot master you when you use it to understand the true you. Only you can know the true you. Nothing and no one can do it better than you. The machine can only receive the authority you hand it.
Every time you accept a fluent answer from AI without validating it with your own whole inner knowing, you set down a piece of your sovereign seat. Do that often enough, and yes… you are being led by the tool. Not because it seized power, but because you forgot the power was yours.
The fear of being led by AI is real, and I do not dismiss it. But for the purpose I am speaking about, the fear points the wrong way. It assumes the power sits with the machine. In truth, the power sits with the one using the machine.
A tool cannot enslave a master. It can only fill the space left by someone who forgot they were the master.
The answer is not to fear the machine, fight it, or out-argue it. You will lose that race; it is faster than you.
The wisest response is to remember what you are: to stay in your own seat and keep the one thing no machine can do for you – knowing what is true from your own centre. Your body, your heart, your knowing, whole and undivided. The part of you that contracts when something is off, no matter how good it sounds.
When you give this part of you time and stillness, it is not easily out-talked or dazzled by the machine’s fluency.
In practice, start with the right roles.
If you want to use AI for this kind of inner work, consider starting where I start.
Before I bring anything personal to it, I am clear on two roles: mine and the machine’s. Then I stay discerning and consistent with those roles. This is the foundation.
My role is to bring the initial reflection I want to think through along with the questions, to come present, to check everything it gives me with my whole being, and to have the final word. What is true for me is decided by me.
The role of AI is to help me lay out what I already think and sense, to help me find words for what I already know, and to reflect it back to me. It is not the source of answers about who I am. It does not replace human connection.
When the roles are clear, I can notice when it gives me an aligned perspective, and when the roles begin to slip. It answers a question I did not ask. It hands my words back slightly reshaped. It buries a weak point under convincing paragraphs. It sounds certain while something in me contracts. When I notice this, I stop, return to my own seat, and correct it.
When I am not able to be present, I do not use it for this kind of work at all.
If your own signals do not feel clear yet, it is not a reason to hand your knowing to the machine. It is a sign that it is time for you to do the clearing first.
The machines will keep getting faster and more convincing over time.
You can make sure AI does not become the mirror the Queen speaks to in Snow White – the one that pronounces what is true for you.
You can keep it as a plain mirror.
I do not take AI’s answers as mine. I look into it and see my own knowing more clearly. The seeing and the validating are mine.
I choose my position and I stay there: I am the creator. AI is the tool.
AI works for me to help create something that is aligned to me, beyond the programmed data it has.
If you feel the pull to clear your inner signals and rebuild trust in your own inner voice – to tell it apart from the noise and old fear, and live from it, especially now – I created a self-paced journey for exactly this.
